Were you always planning to be an accountant and why?

Yes, I have always wanted to be a Chartered Accountant since I was 9 years old.


When meeting with clients do they mostly come to your own premises or do you mostly go their theirs?

I mostly go to my clients

Email, Phone, Face to Face, WhatsApp

What do you love most about accounting?

The application of accounting principles to the recording of company activities/transactions for the preparation of financial statements or management accounts is very fascinating to me.


Would you recommend accounting as a career for school leavers, and why?

Yes, I would recommend accounting to young school leavers. Simply put, accounting helps the management of organisations to give proper reporting of their stewardship and use of organisational resources to providers of capital and other stakeholders.


What qualities should South African business people be looking for in their accountant?

Professional competence, Ethical behaviour and integrity


What is the biggest challenge facing accountants today?

The ability to remain ethical in a corrupt world.


What aspects of accounting do you focus on most?

Financial accounting, taxation (both individual and company) as well as IFRS compliance.


How far away from your premises is your furthest client?

25Kms


From your accounting experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons SMEs in SA fail, what would it be?

Lack of capital. Lack of financial management skills. Debtors who take too long to pay as well as rising costs.


What accounting software do you like best?

Pastel Partner


What other software, online services or apps do you use?

Caseware and SARS E-Filing


Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some accounting jobs and why/why not?

I don't think so, as computers will not be able to think and apply accounting principles like human beings.


What is your opinion on Bitcoin?

Not sure it is a sustainable means of exchange in the long run due to the lack of an audit trail in Bitcoin transactions.


What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Cooking, baking and health campaigning.
