Were you always planning to be an accountant and why?

Yes since my schooling career, I have been passionate about the numbers and it only got more interesting from there as the years progressed.

 

When meeting with clients do they mostly come to your own premises or do you mostly go their theirs?

I mostly go to my clients

 

What is your preferred mode of communication with your clients?

Email, Phone

 

Have you ever done an online video call with a client?

Yes

 

What do you love most about accounting?

The way that everything has rules and that, once you have the numbers, you can analyse the business to look at performance and advise.

 

Would you recommend accounting as a career for school-leavers, and why?

Yes. Accounting is needed by everyone at some stage of their life. There is a shortage of accounting given the growing number of new companies being performed.

 

What qualities should South African business people be looking for in their accountant?

Someone who is resilient and someone who is always using technology to improve

 

What is the biggest challenge facing accountants today?

Lot of red tape and accountants take the bullet for clients from delays at SARS.

 

What aspects of accounting do you focus on most?

To use technology as far as possible to improve and to always keep up with current legislation as it is constantly changing.

 

Describe your average client:

I have various small businesses as I believe you have to start small to gain practical hands-on experience before going into bigger clients.

 

How far away from your premises is your furthest client?

About 100km

 

From your accounting experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons SME's in SA fail, what would it be?

Lack of financial management and thinking they are ok when they do not even have a forecasted budget. So when there are unexpected costs they are in a problem

 

What accounting software do you like best?

Pastel Partner

 

What other software, online services or apps do you use?

Sage One and ChatGPT app and ACCA student articles on the app

 

Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some accounting jobs and why/why not?

Yes if accountants do not automate the tasks that can be done by a computer.

 

What is your opinion on Bitcoin?

It is very volatile and in my opinion, waiting for a crash.

 

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Reading and playing soccer

 

What is the most interesting thing on your bucket list?

To travel to different parts of the world
