What do you love most about accounting?
Solving problems, Doing Financial statements and giving advice to my clients with regard to financial planning and tax planning.
Would you recommend accounting as a career for school leavers, and why?
Yes, an accounting career has more opportunities for success, like if they cannot find a job they can open their own accounting practice.
What qualities should South African business people be looking for in their accountant?
Is the accountant registered with the accounting professional body? And is he/she in good standing?
Can he/she give you an example of a client that he/she helped previously?
They must be trustworthy, honest, independent and professional.
What is the biggest challenge facing accountants today?
Most of the clients are not good in tax planning and as an accountant, you'll find out, for example, that clients unknowingly owe millions to SARS. The challenge then is that these clients don’t want to pay the tax to SARS.
What aspects of accounting do you focus on most?
1. Financial statements of a close corporation, private companies, partnership and sole traders/individuals.
2. Helping clients to do tax planning.
3. Doing Income tax, PAYE and Vat registration to SARS.
4. Doing Income tax, PAYE, UIF, SDL and VAT calculations and submitting to relevant authority, e.g. SARS.
5. Helping clients with CIPC requirements, for example, company registrations.

Private companies and a few close corporations.

30 km is the furthest.
From your accounting experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons SME's in SA fail, what would it be?
Poor Financial Management.
What accounting software do you like best?
Sage Pastel Accounting.
What other software, online services or apps do you use?
Sage Pastel Accounting online and Quickbooks.
Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some accounting jobs and why/why not?
Yes. Only employees with experience in management will still have their jobs.
What is your opinion on Bitcoin?
Bitcoins can be used for online transactions between individuals instead of people carrying cash around to pay each other.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spending time with my Wife and my kids and going to Church. I also like reading business news.
