Were you always planning to be an accountant and why?

Yes, When i was 10 years old, the only office jobs i knew where jobs like Receptionist, Secretary and Teachers. The first time i heard of the name Accountant through a friend, i fell in love with it because they told me that all Chartered Accountants are rich but you have to pay the price. I loved the money and the challenge and surprisingly accounting at school was very easy until i got to third year University. At that point it was too late to quit so i soldiered on to be a qualified chartered accountant. Go big or go home

What do you love most about accounting?

Having a satisfied customer



Would you recommend accounting as a career for school-leavers, and why?

Study Accounting for the passion not for the money. There are another million jobs out there that can still bring you money and when the tough gets going, it’s your passion that will stand the test of time



What qualities should South African business people be looking for in their accountant?

Integrity, Excellency, Passionate, Empathy



What is the biggest challenge facing accountants today?

People not realising the importance of their roles in business



What aspects of accounting do you focus on most?

Payroll, Preparation of Financial Statements, CIPC  and TAX

How far away from your premises is your furthest client?

about 35km (Midrand- Krugersdorp)



From your accounting experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons SME's in SA fail, what would it be?

Lack of accountability



What accounting software do you like best?

SAGE



What other software, online services or apps do you use?

CASEWARE



Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some accounting jobs and why/why not?

Automation is likely to take away most of the mundane stuff but you cant replace the Common Accounting Sense Accountants bring to an organisation



What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Watching movies
